Navigating change successfully doesn’t happen by accident. That’s why I created the Five Pillars of Navigating Change—a framework designed to help us move through life’s inevitable transitions with calm, steadiness, and strength.

The first pillar, Awareness, was about noticing shifts: observing how change affects your body, mind, and emotions. But awareness is just the beginning. Once you can see what’s shifting, the next step is choosing how you’ll respond.

That brings us to the second pillar, Adaptation, the small, everyday actions you take to align with your current season of life.

If Awareness is about opening your eyes, Adaptation is about moving your feet. It’s the lived practice of choosing rhythms, routines, and perspectives that help you move smoothly through change. Where Support (the third pillar) provides external reinforcements like oils, supplements, and mindful rituals, Adaptation is about what you actively do day-to-day. It’s your way of saying: I will meet this change with flexibility instead of resistance.

Adaptation in Action: Meaning and Practical Steps

Adaptation is about taking the flexibility you’ve committed to and turning it into concrete, everyday choices. It means adjusting your habits, routines, and mindset in ways that help you move with life’s changes rather than resist them. The next step is putting these choices into practice through simple daily actions that support your well-being.

Practical Ways to Adapt

Adaptation is where navigating change becomes real. It’s no longer just noticing what’s shifting, it’s about weaving new rhythms into your days so the season feels supportive rather than overwhelming. Think of these practices as small, intentional choices that keep you flexible, grounded, and steady as the world around you changes. Just like the leaves adjust to shorter days by releasing what no longer serves them, you too can align your habits and routines to meet this moment.

Here are some practical ways to bring Adaptation into your daily life:

🌅 Morning Rituals for Centered Beginnings

ree
  • Awaken your senses. Start your day by diffusing a bright citrus oil like Wild Orange or Bergamot. For extra energy, blend with Peppermint for a “Pep in Your Step.”

  • Ground your steps. Apply Balance (with Wild Orange if you like) to the bottoms of your feet before moving into the day. This simple act can anchor your body while your mind gears up for new challenges—“Find Your Center.”

Focus on gratitude. Open your Gratitude in Focus journal and jot down three things you’re grateful for. Linking journaling with essential oils creates an anchor—each time you smell that oil later in the day, it can recall the grounded gratitude you began with.

🕰 Daily Habits That Shape Flexibility

  • Supplement wisely. As your body adjusts to seasonal transitions, keep your foundational health strong with daily supplementation. There are wellness guides that can support you: Falling into Fall: Simple Ways to Build Bone and Back to You: Feel Good From the Inside Out.

  • Anchor with oils. Use the same oil you journaled with in the morning as an anchoring scent later in the day. One deep inhale can reconnect you to your earlier awareness and remind you of your intention. (See the Wellness Guide for more ways to anchor your day.)

  • Move with the season. Trade high-intensity routines for gentle stretching, walking, or yoga as days cool down. Adaptation means listening to what your body needs right now.

  • Nourish with balance. Embrace seasonal produce and warming foods that fuel both body and mood. Eating in rhythm with the season helps your system settle into change.

  • Shift your perspective. When challenges pop up, pause and ask:

What small adjustment can I make here to move with this change instead of resisting it?

☀️ Midday Refresh

  • Boost energy naturally. As focus dips, diffuse Peppermint with a citrus oil for “Refreshed and Ready to Go.”

  • Step outside. Even a five-minute break in fresh air can shift your perspective and renew your energy for the rest of the day.

🌄 Evening Transition

  • Mark the shift. Diffuse a fresh blend like “Citrus Mountain” to signal the close of your workday. This helps you release lingering stress and mentally shift into home, rest, or connection.

  • Create boundaries. Even simple rituals—changing clothes, a short walk, or tidying your workspace—reinforce the adaptation from one role into another.

🌙 Night Reset for Restful Renewal

ree

Reset your rhythm. As daylight shortens, honor your body’s need for rest. Going to bed 30 minutes earlier can make mornings gentler.

Use the Serenity Sleep System.

  • Inhale the soothing aroma of Serenity Restful Blend as you prepare for bed.

  • Take a Serenity Softgel with L-Theanine and tart cherry to support relaxation and melatonin production.

  • Apply the Serenity Stick + Valerian to your feet and pulse points just before bed, letting its calming aroma guide you into sleep.

✨ One Step at a Time

This list is massive—and that’s the point. Adaptation doesn’t happen in a single day. Instead, choose one new practice each week. Pick a day—Sunday works well—to reflect, then add a fresh rhythm to your daily life. Over time, these small shifts create big steadiness.

Guiding You Through Change

I started with doTERRA shortly after it launched, having already used essential oils for 15 years. But when my sister gave me a bottle of doTERRA Wild Orange, it was a game-changer. The moment I opened it and inhaled the scent, I was in awe. It was a mood-shifting experience that sealed my commitment to doTERRA and my journey began. How could you not smile when you smell Wild Orange? That was over 15 years ago.

More recently, I expanded my passion for wellness and personal growth into creating transformative journals. These journals are designed to inspire growth, intention, and personal transformation. I am passionate about helping others on their unique journeys of self-discovery. I craft journals that combine meaningful prompts with reflection to help individuals embrace change and cultivate a life of purpose.
